We went to see this last night — it’s been out a while here, but we haven’t seen a movie in the theaters since Wallace & Gromit came out!!
Anyhow, we thought it was a decent movie — didn’t have that slam of anger/guilt/regret that we’d paid $6.50 each to see the movie on big screen when we could have waited to see it for 50c or on dvd.
We liked the funny parts — the things that kids just wouldn’t get… but what we didn’t like was how much violence was in this movie. I was really surprised. It was downright scary at some points (lots of Jaws references) and I would have been scared out of my wits if I’d been a kid!
Apart from that and the horrendous scene where the vultures sing… which once I stopped groaning I think I might have snickered a time or two.
I hope I haven’t given too much away.
After the movie we went to Cache-n-Coffee (Andy and his geocaching — the Central Ohio Geocachers Association meets once a month at Cup-O-Joes in the Easton mall) and although I don’t enjoy caching, I can still make conversation with these folks — long as they don’t talk about caching so much that my eyes begin to roll back into my head!
After that we headed over to Smokey Bones BBQ and Grill and had a meal there. I am coming down with a cold, so I didn’t order anything fantastically different — just some chicken strips — because I knew I wouldn’t be able to taste much anyhow. Plus my stomach was feeling a bit acidy, and that plus BBQ sauce doesn’t equate for a good nights sleep. (Not that I have been getting those either!! oy vey)
So the moral of this blog entry is … don’t get old. It’s not very fun.

is an EXCELLENT film!!! We went to go see it this evening — Andy took me out on a date! *fans for any readers swooning in disbelief or shock*
*grin*
We went to see it over at Easton — our favorite cinema… it’s a huge place with over 30 theaters inside! As W&G is playing on three separate screens, with about 7 shows a day on each one, it wasn’t much of a surprise that we were the only ones to see it at the time we did…. but it sure was nice to have the theater to ourselves!! That meant we could laugh at all the extremely British jokes that others wouldn’t get, and we could read out loud all the funny names on things… like Wallace’s secret bookshelf with all the books named with puns on cheese names… Fromage to Eternity… East of Edam… etc.
Good ol’ IMDb have a great huge list of trivia facts about the movie here. Peter Kay even did one of the voices — and he did a smashing job. We’re huge fans of his.
It was weird to watch that film knowing that the original sets for all the other series etc. have burned down. I know the sets for this one didn’t, but still…. poor Aardman lost quite a lot.
Anyhoo — for a wonderful time and a good laugh… go see it!
funny Spiderman 2 fact
Thursday, January 20th, 2005I was just reading Jon’s blog (well actually Si Cliff’s “anti-Spiderman2 rant” on Jon’s blog… and it kind honked me off… but everyone’s entitled to their own opinion… even if they are wrong!!
hee hee!
Anyhow — I just was on IMDb and was reading the trivia bits for Spiderman 2 and found out that Alfred Molina who plays Doc Oc, actually gave names to his four mechanical tentacles (Larry, Harry, Flo, and Moe). Flo was the top right tentacle, because it was operated by a female grip and that particular tentacle was the most motherly, which removed his sunglasses and gave him sips of his drink.
Poor Shep and Curly!! Nevermind… he was going for the rhyming thing I guess!
Ron Howard & the Da Vinci Code movie
Friday, January 7th, 2005Read this first — from news on IMDB.com …
Movie Bosses Warned To Accurately Portray Albinism
Movie director Ron Howard is being advised to tread carefully when filming the movie adaptation of novel The Da Vinci Code this year, by not permitting albino stereotypes. The National Organization For Albinism And Hypopigmentation (NOAH) has asked film bosses to make sure the upcoming movie doesn’t portray its albino character as a red-eyed psychopath. NOAH president Mike McGowan says, “One huge problem with (author Dan Brown’s book) The Da Vinci Code is how (the character of) Silas is described with red eyes. That’s a myth. Most often in people with albinism the eyes are light blue or even hazel. Ron Howard can make a big difference for people with albinism by continuing the trend away from a hack device if they adjust the Silas character to not be an evil albino. Over the years the stereotyping and misinformation foisted on the albinism community by film-makers does real harm to real people.” Tom Hanks has signed up to star in The Da Vinci Code, which is slated for a mid-2006 release.
Have these daft people READ the book?? How can he make the movie with Silas being a nice guy???? Silas is a bad guy — but because he’s an albino person he’s supposed to be portrayed as a good albino?? Honestly. How rubbish would that film be with no tension because a good guy is chasing the … other good guy????!
Gotta love it.

Sunday, November 7th, 2004Something big came out on DVD in the UK before the US!!!!!
Shrek 2! They decided in the US that it would be better to release Shrek 2 on the Friday of last week rather than on the Tuesday (when it hit UK shelves) because of the “drama” of the Presidential Election! Strange.

Spiderman and the very scary Doc-Oc
Friday, July 30th, 2004Wednesday I went to see Spiderman 2 with Ione & the kids. We’d had several people assure us that it wouldn’t be too scary for an 8 and a 10 year old, but boy howdy– during the actual film… there were parts I was really freaking for them!!
It brought out two things for me….
1.) There can be a HECK of a lot of violence in a PG rated film before it has to be rated higher!!!!
and
2.) I am really used to lots of violence… dull to it really– it was frightening for me to be watching this film and thinking “yeah yeah, just get past this already… *yawn*” and I looked over and the two kids are sat on the edge of their seats, one covering her eyes and the other transfixed with awe… oh the horror.
frightening… on so many levels!
empire’s top 100
Tuesday, February 10th, 2004I was around Anna’s house last night for a girlie night and she had the latest Empire magazine. Out of their top 100, I have seen 79 of them!! whohoo ![]()
I didn’t agree with some of their choices, and I definitely didn’t agree with the top 10. They split the LOTR into the three separate films, okay I can understand that, but there’s no way Fellowship was number 1, Two Towers number 2 or 3, and Return of the King 8!!! Return of the King was by far the best, so I’d have put that at number 1, then put Fellowship somewhere in the top 20, and Two Towers in the top 60.
Return of the King is quite possibly the best film I have ever seen. (and as you can guess, I have seen a honkin’ lot of films)
