Kristen is blogging again.

I got Kristen up and running with WordPress about a week ago as part of my move from MT to WordPress. However this afternoon I realised that Google Reader was not aware of the new posts because the RSS feed is slightly different.  I made a quick change this afternoon and Google Reader now has her new posts so hopefully you should be getting them too  if you subscribed to her blog.  If you don’t already get the posts then head on over to CupTeaLuv and subscribe to the rss feed or the comment feed.

Homeward bound to the UK!

Posted on March 26th, 2009 in church by Andy

I heard the sad news that my Uncle passed away just over a week ago so I am heading back to the UK for the funeral just before Easter weekend and it also means that I will be flying back out on Easter Monday. My plan is to fly into Gatwick and fly out of Manchester airport and hopefully get over to Wheelock Heath on Sunday. So my question to you Wheelockites is, Can you put the word out and see if anyone would be able to put me up Sunday night and take me to the airport Monday (13th) morning for 10am? It would be cool to meet up with everyone again at the Sunday service – I’m trying to see if I can get to both services, but I’d definitely be there for the evening service.

Although it’s a sad occasion it will be nice to see the rest of the family and friends back in the uk – will be 4 years and 3 days since we left to come to the states when I fly out.

Happy Birthday – now here’s a bill!

Posted on March 18th, 2009 in RealLife by Andy

It’s been a busy week – so much so, that I’ve not even had a chance to blog the fact that it was my birthday a week ago! Even the birthday was long as I woke up at 4am, got up at 5 after giving up on getting back to sleep and then got paged (as I was on call) when some servers failed to come back up properly after a reboot.
Kristen and I went to the cinema to see Watchmen which is the worst film I’ve ever seen – do not go see it – and what made it worse was that we paid extra to see it on the imax, which means we saw even larger “blue bits” (trying to keep this blog family friendly).
Kristen got me a copy of Ivor – one of the dvd’s we had watched recently, which is great – well worth watching if you’ve not seen it already. I especially like John Cleese as the mad scientist yelling “Igor – Pull the switch!”
I also got a glow in the dark batman tshirt from my brother and sister in law which is also cool – I’ve ended up with a “batman thing” after getting the nickname Batman at work. I’m glad I got this nickname as some of the other nicknames are not as complimentary! I also got some money which I’m putting into savings at the moment but we’ll probably put towards a new bed (or chiropractor appointments!)

Update Doh – I just realised that I forgot to blog about the whole point of the title of this post….So in the USA you have to get your car tags renewed every year on your birthday. Makes sense, but it’s a sucky birthday present, especially when the tags cost $84 for 1 little red sticker.  Then as I handed over my licence as proof of identity the clerk asked me if I realised my licence was about to expire. I said No and he mentioned it expired on my birthday (ie that day) so I had to get my licence renewed by taking an easy vision test and having my photo taken – another $24 – so that is what my birthday money was spent on :-(

2008 taxes done.

Posted on March 15th, 2009 in taxes by Andy

I’ve got my taxes done for 2008. As usual the process was not too bad – as long as all your paperwork is in one place and you go through the software (taxcut) methodically it’s not too bad. I chose to use the free federal file with TaxCut and then filed Ohio online rather than pay TaxCut to do it. Dublin I have to do online as I owe them $5 due to Google Adsense and Kristen’s cafepress sales.

Geocaching webpage updated.

Posted on March 7th, 2009 in Events by Andy

I’ve just updated my Geocaching blog to use WordPress now. Hopefully this year I’ll get to do more caching – I’ve already gone out caching more days this year than I did last year, so that is a good sign. Next weekend is pi day (3.14) and there is another geocaching pi day meet up. Hopefully the weather stays nice so I can go caching before or after the meeting.
