I was reading the July issue of PCPro where they rave about PowerControls from Ontrack which enables you to restore individual items or mailboxes from exchange. The brilliant news is that you don't even need to have exchange on the machine you are restoring from. You can restore from just the edb files stored on disk or tape. The only downside is the cost, from £699. Although this would be worth it if you ever got into the situation where you HAD to restore the data quickly, its not in the priceband range where you have a copy "just in case", to play with, or to put in your techies toolkit. I wish I had known about this earlier on this year when I had to recover from the break-in at the office.
