Beware Emusic Registrations

I received a spam email about hardcore porn today to an email address that had only been given out to emusic.com Either they are selling their membership list against their security policy, they have been hacked, or someone is sending to VERY random email address's (where the first 6 out of 12 characters are vkxcih). Any of the possibilities is not good. I'd recommend you don't use their service (I can't even remember why I signed up) and I'm deleting the email address that was used so I don't get any more.
update The email address used was vkxcihisrnxe@ and I never tick the box to allow them to share my details so it shouldn't have been passed on. I have over 100 address's at this domain and this was the only one that received the spam so a dictionary attack seems unlikely. Admittedly 100 email address's out of 36 to the power of 12 is not a lot! But then the odds of getting one spam to that random address is a lot more than winning the lottery.

This is from their privacy policy: "You have the option to change your mind and to stop us from further sharing your Personal Information with our promotional partners and third-party advertisers by contacting service@emusic.com and explaining how you would like to modify your preferences."

What address was it? I get spam emails through MyRealBox that are CCd to addresses like nmfyhdsv@myrealbox.com , so it's possible that they used a very random dictionary attack.

I am experiencing the same thing with Emusic. They told me it was because I had "emusic" in front of the @ sign in my email address and "someone" is listening for such addresses. As the porno spam I am receiving is not music related - I think that was just an excuse from them as I agree - they either sold their list or got hacked. Either way - they are aholes to deal with and refuse to cancel my Emusic account due to the Spam - "you must complete your 1 year committment".

Beware - they are very unscrupulous to deal with...
