Internet Explorer large fonts

Looks like I'm not the only one to have the problem where ie shows large fonts and screws up the backgrounds of webpages. There are several posts in google on this, (example) dating back 2 years or more but i've not found a fix yet .
Here's google and msn. The pictures are large as I don't have a decent editor on the machine.

You are probably using a "wheel" mouse. A mouse with a click wheel in the center that you can use to scroll.

Well now that IE has a pop-up blocker built in, one that can be ignored if you click while holding the control key, you probably accidently turned the click wheel while holding the control button.

Doing this changes the font size in some web pages. Hold control and scroll the wheel and set the text size to what you like. Do this on a site that looks "big"...

Hope this helps.

Not sure if you figured this out yet or not, but I had the exact thing happen to me. The root cause was that I had HIGH CONSTRAST turned on under the display settings. This forces XP and Iexplorer to use fonts and color schemes for supposed easing reading. This ends up blowing up font sizes and removing background themes on various web pages (i.e. msn). Toggle this setting off and I bet your problem goes away.

Hi, I have been on this all morning and have given up trying to save my current profile. Create a new login name (I have win2000) and the new profile will load IE pages correctly again. Now I have to transfer settings and documents, what a pain. I tried everything else including re-installing IE, accessibility wizard, font changes, on and on.
Thanks for the support. (ps. my screen look identical to your screen shot)

How did you solve the problem Andy?
I saw your image grabs. I have exactly the same look in my ie6 window on xp+sp2. Its definitely a profile issue.
The only reasonable solution seems to be to create a new profile.

Eds post fixed my problem. The 2nd one down. I had the exact same problem with fonts too large in internet explorer.

CTL + Mouse Wheel fixed it for me.

Hi Andy

I had a similar problem it was really irritating with the Huge Buttons and Fonts in Internet Explorer, I traced it to a a Trojan that was being used a third party Plugin for displaying web pages. It was named mmview101.dll I removed succesfully but the setting were still buggered up, this problem really bothered me so I traced the further.
The problem was originating in the registry and since it only effects User Profiles and it had to be located in HKLU section. It also effected only MS programs so I found the path and with trial and error I found the corrupted registry which was causing this problem.

I deleted the following string which seemed to have restored my IE settings to normal. The Key HKEY Local User\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Winlogon\BuildNumber Value. then Log off.
If you delete \WindowsNT\Winlogon Registry key it also worked. Its not an integral part of windows since HKLM handles Winlogon.

I hope this works for you.
