The premise: the crew at Photoshop Contest posts a picture, and your job is to edit that photo with Photoshop and post a link to that new photo on the Web site. People seem to start building off of the ideas of the other people posting, and before you know it, you have these creative and [usually] funny picture

Thanks Lockergnome!

I clicked on a link

|

I clicked on a link from my random surfing today and found Irma's blog. Its a nice amusing read and she also draws cartoons to illustrate her posts. I'm amazed she has time to do that! I'm impressed.

Scrumptious food was had at

|

Scrumptious food was had at the Swettenham Arms last night after the golf. I had a nice Duck in plum sauce and Kristen had Roast turkey (as the Tuna Steak was orrffff!)

Did a search on Google

|

Did a search on Google to find who had linked to me. Was interested to see an austinpowers link seeing as though I had never visited the site. Anyway, clicking on the link gave me this site in a gold colour which was suprisingly pretty good!

Have uploaded two movies of

|

Have uploaded two movies of the cats, mainly Basil playing with Frankie's tail. 2mb and 3mb respectively, they can be found here and here. As they are Quicktime movie files, you will need quicktime installed which can be downloaded free of charge from Apple's QuickTime website

Just checked my old blog

|

Just checked my old blog and I've been blogging since March 2001. I could really do with importing it all into this blog somehow....will have to put that down on my to do list.
I'm off to go shoot some golf balls at the driving range - see ya!

Kristen and I have been

|

Kristen and I have been busy with the digital camera today after seeing some cute kitten poses!
Also added a weather pixie so you can see what the weather is like where I am (hot at the moment) and also added the last 10 songs played with winamp (although winamp is not my preferred player, it does have the dll hook in to produce the listing, so either the listings won't be updated to often OR I'll start using it more and more often.

This made me laugh -

This made me laugh - suprisingly its less of a geek score than I was expecting!

I am 32% Geek

You probably work in computers, or a history deptartment at a college. You never really fit in with the "normal" crowd. But you have friends, and this is a good thing.

Now Web Album Generator looks

|

Now Web Album Generator looks like a really nice application to generate photo albums on the web including thumbnails. I've downloaded it this morning and the Congleton Carnival album has been regenerated. The other advantage is that its free!

TomorrowToday is Systems Administrator day when you all have to tell us how wonderful we are! I'm celebrating by not being in the office as I have to go to a client - three days into my "new" role and I've been working for clients all 3 days....I am SO looking forward to the weekend.

I've switched my commenting system back to my own host now that enetation seems to be getting slower and slower.

Pictures from the Congleton Carnival are now available (will also be linked from the side bar under albums). These pictures were taken with my new Kodak DX3600 Camera which I am very pleased with. They've not come out too bad considering. Most pictures have not been edited in any way, so they are large. Some have been cropped or rotated in the case of portrait shots.
Let me know what you think!

Found Gibberations somehow and its a really neat site. Looks great and also has a few tricks using mysql and things. The owner either knows his stuff or knows how to integrate third party tools well....either way, its a nice site!

After two nights of not-a-lot-of-sleep I found out today that I am not being made redundant, which is a big relief. Its sad though that other people in the office have had to go. Life has changed big style this week! Can't say too much because of who may or may not read this web page!

I've not seen this site

|

I've not seen this site before, but MyITForum looks like a useful troubleshooting resource for computing.

I got greeted by a

|

I got greeted by a question when I visited the BBC's website this morning (yes - very early!). They now do two editions - a uk one, with prominence to uk story's and a global version. Looking at the front page after choosing uk, there seems little difference...There is a page explaining the changes but it looks like the main content will remain the same - I hope so!

if you want support for

|

if you want support for your camera products, then I strongly recommend that you do not buy anything from MX2. When i ordered the stuff yonks ago they mucked the order up and now when I asked for support I got "
Sorry but we do not stock the goods you require." despite it being listed on their product page....
Buyer aware!

Woohoo! Got the camera usb

|

Woohoo! Got the camera usb reader software (found it in that attic), installed and I can now read the pictures from the Compact Flash card. Now all I have to do is sort them and put them online - so watch this space!
Also got the office arranged, with the two computer desks and the main office desk - looks really smart! (photo coming)

Arghhhh - NONE of the

|

Arghhhh - NONE of the pc's that I have will recognise my compactflash/smart reader utility that I need to get pictures off the digital camera - that is NOT good. They all see the hardware, but none of them recognise the drivers :-(

First picture uploaded from the

|

First picture uploaded from the new digital camera - Winston is much larger than life - although he has strange green things around his eyes - almost looks like an extra from the Stephen King film Tommyknockers! 350k file!

Following up from the note

|

Following up from the note last weekend - they want people like this to determine peoples legal fate?????

A preview of what next

|

A preview of what next years outlook will look like is now available. Looks quite nice. For more details there is a preview q&a available

Deleted Domains has a free form you can fill in that will let you search the deleted domains that are out there - not bad. I'm a bit wary of what they get out of it though....

Spamnet has been updated to

|

Spamnet has been updated to Beta4 (shame that their announcement mailing list didn't tell me!)

Arggghhhh - someone has sent

|

Arggghhhh - someone has sent a spam out on the internet with one of my work's domains as the from address, so guess where all the bounces are arriving! NOT fun :-(

Bookcrossing sounds like a neat

|

Bookcrossing sounds like a neat way of getting rid of old books that you no longer wish to read, but would also be interested in seeing where it goes. You release a book into the wild and then if anyone else picks it up then they go to the bookcrossing place and add their comments etc....Seeing as though I have tons of books, Congleton might well be appearing in the list soon..... Its certainly a unique way of clearing out the bookshelves!

we get some new carpet

|

we get some new carpet (or lino to be more exact) in the house today - this time going in the upstairs bathroom and downstairs loo. It will be really funny to watch Sir slipping on the new surface :-) Another name we could have for him is AliBaba if you have seen the latest webcam picture!

I can't believe that the

|

I can't believe that the two main headlines on the radio this morning were two new legal turnarounds. The first was to exempt the American armed forces from any war-crimes action whilst involved in a peace keeping mission. Does this include action taken in Afghanistan and such like? Why should they be exempt and no other country. What have they got to hide? Surely the whole point of having war crimes investigations is to investigate what has gone wrong?

The other matter is that some judicial courts in the uk will loose the right to trial by Jury. There are enough miscarriages of justice and incomptencies in the uk courts and now they want to do this, so now just one person decides if another person is guilty or not?

AND they've decided to decriminalize cannabis too.....just what is happening to justice? Thats three really weird and mixed up rulings in two days!

Don't forget to check out

|

Don't forget to check out the webcam for more pictures of Sir

Grrr - Freeserve have just

|

Grrr - Freeserve have just spammed me with a special offer of a domain of £10 for one year - seeing as though i can get them half that price and already have about 5 domains......I don't think I'll be very interested!

Update Wow - that

|

Update Wow - that was easier than I thought! I have noticed that the comments routine doesn't always work though - will have to try and work out whats wrong with that. Hopefully it wont take long either!

More comments work ok in opera, but no other browsers - whats up with that? I'm wondering if the code that does the comments is bust as I'm sure it used to work!

Yet more Think i've cracked it!

Just taken a HTML 3.2

|

Just taken a HTML 3.2 exam and the results are pretty pleasing, including the comment that I am capable of mentoring others in this area - which is especially appropriate as that is what I do in the evenings at work one night a week!

Play battleships online! Took me 32 shots, 17 hits with a kill ratio of 53% to win! - beat that

PGP - you know that

|

PGP - you know that security program that is sooooo good that it encrypts your mails and other stuff that you don't want theFeds to read - has had a second bug found in it. Admittedly this security hole, which allows others to run code on your machine is found in the outlook plugin, but surely this is a major problem - how can a relied upon security program have a flaw such as this.......Maybe its a consipiracy theory to stop people using outlook (like I have done but not for that reason). Oh and there is a patch available.

as you can tell from

|

as you can tell from the webcam pictures, it is extremely hard to get photo's of an 8 week old kitten!

If you are using donhosts

|

If you are using donhosts (or any of their resellers) then you may not realise, but they are bouncing emails from yahoogroups - which is a right pain as that is what I use to send out family update emails including to some helsby.net email address's

Our newest addition is online

|

Our newest addition is online and needs a name - any ideas?

Apparently I'm already in the

|

Apparently I'm already in the blogdex - a list of blogs on the net. No idea how I got in there but its pretty cool!

Found a picture that *looks*

|

Found a picture that *looks* similar to milo/cadbury/whateverhisnameischangedtonext

There's an interesting security challenge laid down by the MCP Techmentor summit on Security where they invite you to hack their webserver. The hacking attempts will be recorded and analysed at the conference and later published on a cd rom. Sounds really interesting - just wish I could have got to the conference! Hopefully i'll be able to get hold of a copy of the results via work!

I wish my digital camera

|

I wish my digital camera was working :-(
We had a new addition to the family called Milo - a tabby kitten about 8 weeks old. Winston and Frankie are being the older brothers and not sure how to react to him, although he reckons he rules the roost (at least when he's not asleep that is!) Unfortunately the digital camera won't focus and take pictures and I can't get the webcam to capture the images - they appear ok in the picture program, but it won't save individual pictures - however, keep an eye on the web page as I doubt it will be very long before he stars on his own web page.

Nice to see that BT

|

Nice to see that BT are on the ball. Today I got a letter saying "I wanted you to be one of the first to know that BT Broadband is available now. In fact, you could order it online today, even before the service is advertised on TV". Seeing as though i've had broadband for two weeks I think their marketing people need to a) check their customer database to send stuff out to eligible people and b) make sure that their customer services/marketing peeps are one of the first people to know when technology is available. Yet another reason why BT are incompetent.

Parking Clowns are the new breed of traffic wardens in Canterbury - totally over zealous with as much devotiion to duty as to their effort to raise funds through the fines. An interesting website that has been harassed by the local police several times due to their opinions being voiced - support the website!

In case you are

Andy/Male/26-30. Lives in United Kingdom/Cheshire and speaks English. Spends 80% of daytime online. Uses a Fast (128k-512k) connection. In case you are wondering what the icon is about, its a blogchalk - something that allows people to search for blogs within their locality. Click on the link for more information.

There's a new kid on

|

There's a new kid on the blog! WebCrimson (weird name) looks like an alternative to blogger.....

Learn Danish and have a laugh whilst you are doing so - watch the cow keep fit. The site is in Danish, but its fairly obvious what to do.

Had an email back from

|

Had an email back from symantec today - the version of Ghost that I had been using to restore selected files from an image had not worked. The email contained a new copy of Ghost Explorer that does the job. I can now restore all files from an image using ghost explorer....shame that I've already re-installed the laptop though :-(

Finally finished the office -

|

Finally finished the office - the wooden flooring went in today and finally finished about 5pm. I'm shattered now, but very pleased with the results as it looks really good. Tried moving the computer desk back into the room and the wheel on the desk broke off - so i'm going to have to try and get some new wheels from somewhere. I was really grateful for the Black and Decker Quatro and workmate that I got for Christmas. They had their first real use today - so much so that I had to stop half way through and recharge the battery, but with only an hour charging time, I was able to have lunch whilst I was waiting so no time wasted!

Found a useful app called

|

Found a useful app called Watchcat that enables you to hide applications to the system tray either from a mouse click, or even on a timer if the application has not been used for a certain time. Looks pretty good.

Also found an app called DailyRotation that sits in the system tray. Clicking on it takes your browser to the next url in the list. Although its not got a good User Interface to add URL's, once you've set it up it works very well.

Both these apps are freeware too!

Comments can now be turned

Comments can now be turned off or on
Clicking on one of these links will set a cookie on your pc and will toggle comment display for good until you click on the link to toggle back again. Hopefully this will speed up browsing of the webpage when enetation system is slow or if you don't want to see any comments people have posted.

Hmm - apparently the W2k

|

Hmm - apparently the W2k servers that my host uses came under attack yesterday - what worries me is that they weren't protected in the first place......Their email is as follows

At approximately 18:30 2nd July 2002, our network came under attack from a new
worm/virus, similar to the code red worm of last year.
Once infected by this worm, these machines began to scan the Internet for other
vulnerable hosts to infect, this created a massive amount of traffic within our
network, saturating certain links and overloading routers.
Our London based servers which include control panel, mail and UNIX web site
services, were largely unaffected, however access to our Doncaster based data
centre which hosts Windows 2000 web sites and the majority of customer dedicated
and co-located servers was slow at best.
Due to the nature of this attack, it was particularly difficult and time
consuming to diagnose, however once the cause had been established, the infected
hosts were immediately disconnected from the network and normal service was
resumed at approximately 00:00 3rd July 2002.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this unfortunate incident, and
thank you for your patience.

The Norm is a neat

|

The Norm is a neat cartoon - seems to be a cross between Rose is Rose and Dilbert!

Well cloudmark have updated their Spamnet application to beta3 and at first glance its much improved. It certainly seems to be working properly now, blocking spam as it gets downloaded and the blocking function also works.

If you are often prompted

|

If you are often prompted for passwords and can't think of one to use, then WinGuides have an online password generator

Oh dear - there is

Oh dear - there is something up with blogger and bloggar as I am getting a "java.sql.SQLException. blog.getRecentPostsjava.sal.SQLException: Invalid colum name 'PID' That doesn't sound good.
