I had a problem with "There was no response from your mobile device while checking for out-of-date appointments" on the Dell this morning when trying to synch. It worked earlier today and suddenly stopped working. A quick google search turns up several results, but ActiveSync Troubleshooting Guide - Synchronization Errors has the answer and lots of other answers too which is why I've linked to this one.
