Toshiba booting problems.

| | Comments (4)

I've been having some weird problems with the Toshiba laptop recently. In the past couple of weeks it has been refusing to switch on, with just the 1st and the 3rd led lighting up (the latter flashing). The solution has tended to be to unplug everything, remove the power and the battery, plug the mains in, let the machine boot and then plug the battery back in again. It seems to be more unreliable when the cooler, network, modem and power cables are plugged in before I switch the machine on so yesterday I booted without the cooler running. By the end of the day I could feel the underside of the threequarter inch thick wooden desk was warm - and wood is not meant to be a good conductor! Just shows how hot these laptops get. Anyway, on Sunday, when I was meant to use the laptop for a powerpoint presentation at church the machine wouldn't boot and I just could not get it to work by any of the previous tricks mentioned. In the end I had to use another laptop that we fortunately had with us. The weird thing was that when I switched it on later when I got home it worked first time. I wonder if the laptop has nerves.......
Update<hmmmm - interesting. The first post on google for a search containing toshiba 6100 manual contains a description of the problem that I'm having - toshiba 6100 wont turn on and provides a solution - turns out that it is likely to be a loose video card. Guess I'll have to dig out those minature screw drivers.

A friend of mine is having a similar problem with his Toshiba laptop - hopefully the solution would be the same. I'm guessing the loose graphics card would mean the video BIOS isn't kicking in, so the computer can't boot.

my laptop comes on but the lightting is very very poor. i can't see a thing. i want to know what th problem is.
help is greatly appreciated

Hello everybody, when the problem is the video card you will notice the (AC) light flashes in a .-.....- (. being short and - being long) code. If your delicate, it's not too bad a process to take the whole thing appart and reseat the video card.
(remove the keyboard and follow the two black bundled cables to the card which needs to be re-seated - then remove the bottom panneling so that you can!)

unfortunatly before that POST code, and after I fixed it, the 6100 is back to it's previouse problem a POST code of .....-.- the only fix I can find is to remove both power sources, and then put them back. unfortunatly after about an hour the thing goes back to that damned blinking state

hope these POST codes at least confirm some of your problems... - or save those that don't have that error a lot of work opening it up.

Hello,

I have a Toshiba 8200. I am having a similar problem. The laptop will not boot up, but the light comes on but no activity; however when I plug in the ac and immediately press the power button a few times, the light blinks amber and the monitor lights up, and the fan blows but there is nothing on monitor. Any insight here would be great.

Thanks
Mr B.
