Realised after the computer had a hectic few moments tonight when the power surged that the pc was plugged into the surge protection port of the UPS and not the battery backup - oops!

I put in a new UPS after the batter on my old one died (and replacing the battery blew out the old one after that... Not happy!). Power blinks where the other computer that *isn't* on a UPS (the old UPS was planned for that one) doesn't even phase it.
The UPS (just like the old UPS) proceeds to shut the system down. I'm getting real pissed when I realize that I have indeed done the same thing that you did.
