No, not a rude comment, but a statement that the blog on helsby.net will no longer be updated. This is due to the fact that Moveable type works great and the rss routine on helsby.net has now been pulled by the publisher due to the bandwidth requirements of his site and the fact that blogger is getting more and more unreliable.

Now that I'm moving from an asp blog to a php based blog, and the database changes this entails, the free MDB2SQL looks like a useful utility which automates dumping the definition and data from an access database and loading it back into a MySQL database. Thanks to Lockergnome
In the end I realised that the only pages missing on this particular blog was one months worth of posting. It was easier to open up the archive page that blogger had created and then edit it in notepad so that it was in a format suitable for importing.
I did a bit of digging on the MT forums and there were several people who had the same problem of importing data that I did. The trick is not to view the exported file in explorer and then save it, but to ftp it onto your pc and then back up to the MT import directory in ascii mode. I did this and the import worked ok. Now all I have to do is get the blogger exporting to a file again - with ALL the records and everything will be hunkydory.
Just tried to export all my entries from Blogger and reload them into my MoveableType installation. I followed the instructions to the letter and ended up with a half meg export file. Loading into Moveable Type gave me 1001 entries, which looked a bit suspicious. When I then logged into the blog, most of the entries were actually empty and the main Menu screen has loads of errors with lines such as
MT::App::CMS=HASH(0x8359638) Use of uninitialized value in substitution (s///) at lib/MT/Util.pm line 319.
MT::App::CMS=HASH(0x8359638) Use of uninitialized value in substitution (s///) at lib/MT/Util.pm line 320.
Not very helpful really. It seems to be totally random as to which entries it has imported and which ones it hasn't. I might just have to leave the blog on the two different servers, one on the blogger output, and the other on Moveable Type but it doesn't really help to keep everything all in one place. Not happy, oh - and I've just realised Blogger didn't export all the entries either! There's a whole year of entries that has not been exported!
