New phone

|

I got a new phone at work the other day - a Samsung SGH D357. I'm not that impressed with it so far. I do love the fact that when the headset is connected you hear an incoming call ring before it answers. On the previous motorola phone I had it would just autoanswer with no ringing - not a good idea when singing along to the radio in the car.

I've never quite managed to get outlook to synch with the mobile via bluetooth. Infrared works fine and dial up networking over bluetooth worked fine too. In order to get it working I have to do the following.
Enable Bluetooth on the phone. Enable Bluetooth Manager on the laptop.
Select Nokia PC Suite in the bluetooth service manager and hit connect.Select a free com port,(2 in my case). Accept the connection on the phone. At this point the phone will show connecting. THEN go into the pcsynch application and connect using bluetooth. Choose the com port from above and the phone stops showing connecting and you are then connected. At this point you can synch away.
Now that I've blogged this, I'll be able to do it again next time I need to synch!

Snarfing?

Who makes up these names? Apparently certain bluetooth enabled phones (including mine) are vulnerable to 'snarfing' where people can access data from your phone without your consent.

1st Bluejack

|

I did my first BlueJackq in the office the other day and the recipient had a very puzzled look on his face. Unfortunately i've not been anywhere else where I've found a bluetooth enabled phone. Most of them are permanently turned off as it drains the battery quickly. Still here's hoping for some more sometime soon.
