There is now a dnsstuff toolbar for firefox for easily looking up stuff from dnsstuff the site which I frequently use to troubleshoot dns,networking and the registration of domain names.Thanks Mike

Had a weird client problem trying to connect to our servers this morning. She switched her machine on and was unable to lookup the address's of our unix servers, pings came back with host unknown.
Doing a ipconfig /flushdns and a ipconfig /registerdns and it all worked again - I can tell its going to be one of those days again.

Whilst we're on the subject of naming and network, we were also getting event id 7062. This was fixed by removing the dns server from the list of zone transfers. You can't have your dns server included in your own dns zone transfer list (which makes sense really). THanks event id

Had an interesting hour this morning trying to fiddle our dns on the lan here. I wanted to force a lookup via ip to go to the internal network address rather than the external network address. Here's how I did it (as I know I'm going to need it again one day)
