I purchased a Dyson DC18 last week on Woot and it has turned out to be the worst vacuum cleaner we’ve had (and the shortest lifetime). It didn’t even make it around one lap of the house before I had had enough and contacted woot for a returns number. I’m not going to scare you with photos of the carpet after I had vacuumed as it looks awful. Stay away from Dysons, especially if you have (many) hairy cats.

My first experience with a Dyson was not good either… the plastic handle broke off right at the point where a steel pipe ends in the handle. There is an obvious stress-concentration point at the end of this pipe with a groove in the plastic at exactly the same point where mine broke off. Interestingly enough, I could see no useful purpose for this groove.
When I called their customer service department to complain and order another handle, I mentioned that they have a design flaw with this product due to the groove in the plastic. The lady from Dyson stated very firmly that their products “have NO design flaws”. All I could possibly conclude from that statement is that the handle is DESIGNED to break off right there so as to increase their spare parts business. That Dyson fellow is a clever one.
