Last Sunday afternoon I took Kristen out on a surprise trip to the Columbus Museum of Art Chihuly Illuminated exhibit as it was a family day and had extra events going on. What I didn’t know what that the family day meant the $10 entrance fee was waived which was excellent as it the exhibit area is pretty small and the rest of the museum was not very  impressive. The exhibit itself was good although I don’t think it was as good as the one at Franklin conservatory. Although the big pieces were pretty amazing and made your mind boggle as to how they would have been made. Photos online in my Chihuly flickr set don’t really do it justice – especially as the forest of spikes seems to have come out in black and white for some weird reason.

3 years.

Today we’re celebrating the 3rd year anniversary of moving to the USA. The past three years have flown by and so many things have changed since we’ve been here. I’m not sure that celebrating is the correct word to use, but we’re marking the occasion.  We plan to go to a really nice chinese restaurant tonight and have roast duck for dinner – yum!

The funny thing is that often people ask me if I miss the UK (it’s normally the next question after “Are you from Australia?”) and most of the things that I miss are food. We still haven’t found a recipe for cornish pasties and I think we worked out what went wrong with the Yorkshire Puddings last week – the wrong kind of flour apparently.  I keep in touch with family via skype and email so hear from Mum and Dad most weekends.

This week we’re going to sign to get our basement waterproofed. I got fed up with mopping out the basement every time it rained so we’re having some guys come in and put some proper drainage in – hopefully this will allow us to use the basement for an office or home theatre or something other than storage – it’s an expensive process and likely to be pretty messy – I know that the cats are not going to enjoy the noise!

Speaking of cats you have got to watch this engineers guide to cats – very funny.

In other news, there hasn’t really been much change in Kristen’s eyes – she still has some trouble seeing but it doesn’t stop her knitting!

Kristen and I came back to our hose this afternoon and got distracted by a cafepress box that was waiting on the doorstep. We opened it and she was pleased with her “I knit….So I don’t kill people” mug and tshirt.  We’re holding the coffee mug and Kristen asks me “So why did we come back to the house?”.  I couldn’t remember why and then Kristen remembered it was to get some coffee to brew at her parents house.  The funny thing is that she was holding a coffee cup whilst asking me the question.  We both had a good laugh and then proceeded to make the coffee – this afternoons flavour was Coconut Cream pie – I thought it smelt like the pie, but like most flavoured coffees didn’t actually taste like it (but was very nice though).

Warranty on chairs.

Kristen's ChairKristen wants a comfy chair for her sewing/knitting room and so last week when I was off we went out to see what was available. In one of the shops all the goods had a sign on them that stated they had a lifetime warranty. Yet curiously enough they had flyers at the sales desk for a 3 and a 7 year extended warranty. So it really makes wonder what the value of the lifetime warranty is…..

We’ve not actually got the chair yet – just waiting for some funds to arrive. I did however ensure that Kristen got a chair for Christmas……
